Joe VanBerkum - LCPC

Joe VanBerkum, LCPC, serves as Senior Vice President of Operations at Skyway Behavioral Health. In his role, Joe focuses on improving operational workflows and implementing tech-enabled solutions that increase efficiency, enhance the client experience, and support sustainable organizational growth.

Joe earned his master’s degree in clinical psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology and his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Iowa, along with a certification in case management. 

His career spans multiple areas of healthcare, including value-based care, healthcare analytics, payer environments, employee assistance programs, and inpatient behavioral health. 

Prior to joining Skyway, Joe worked within value-based care models supporting patients with chronic kidney disease, managing payer partnerships to improve clinical outcomes and reduce unnecessary utilization, and identifying expansion opportunities aligned with patient needs. 

He also led care and utilization management initiatives for members with behavioral health and substance use disorders, advocating for appropriate levels of care and building community partnerships to support member well-being.

Approachable and mission-driven, Joe is excited to be back in the behavioral health space and to help Skyway grow in a way that expands access to trauma-informed care for individuals and families in need. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and their two young boys.
