Advanced Training & Specialty Experience

Dr. Sophianne Schwab is a board-certified adult and child psychiatrist and eating disorder specialist. Dr. Schwab specializes in the treatment of eating disorders, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, trauma related disorders, and other psychiatric disorders.

Dr. Schwab went to medical school at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and then went on to complete Triple Board (pediatrics/adult psychiatry/child and adolescent psychiatry) residency at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center/University of Cincinnati. Dr. Schwab graduated residency in 2017 and accepted an appointment as an attending physician at her alma mater.

During her time in Cincinnati, she served as the assistant program director of the Triple Board Program for residents as well as an assistant professor teaching medical students and residents. She split her clinical time between pediatrics and child psychiatry with special interest in childhood obesity and LGBTQIA populations. She also spent time assisting in the development of a crisis clinic for patients seen in the emergency department.

After Dr. Schwab left Cincinnati, she worked at a large organization treating eating disorders at the inpatient, residential, and partial hospitalization level of care over multiple states. She treated anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and also worked at the center’s mood and anxiety programs. She also has experience treating eating disorders at the outpatient level of care in both adults and teens.

Dr. Schwab brings her expertise with empathy and believes in treating the client as a complex human being, with attention being paid to biological, psychological, social factors that could be contributing to the client’s story. She strongly believes in care coordination with the client’s outpatient team, as well as our in-house therapists, dieticians, case managers, nurses, and doctors. Her medical training in pediatrics often helps her bring a unique developmental and somatic perspective to psychiatric care, as well as aiding in family work that may be needed in some cases.

When Dr. Schwab isn’t at work, she is running after her two small children. She is a self-described home body who can be generally be found curling up with a good book and her 100 lb labradoodle named Kevin. Dr. Schwab is thrilled to have accepted a job at Skyway working with Julie Friedman, Laura Lange, and the wonderful Skyway team.
